The Michigan Difference

Since becoming a Michigan Wolverine in 2011 I have been told countless times that Michigan has a huge alumni base. They said don't be surprised if you here "go blue" on your travels. Well day 1 of my Switzerland trip and I have already bonded with a Michigan alum. He was the passenger to my right on my plane ride from Atlanta to Zurich. He is a stats professor at a college in Iowa, in the summer he spends 3 weeks in Ann Arbor teaching a class at the university, and now he is in Switzerland to teach a one week course to professors and Phd students. It's amazing how the University of Michigan connects people. GO BLUE!

The plane and the train

Coach, middle seat is an awful way to fly for 9+ hours. No leg room and then the person in front of me reclines...you get the picture. Luckily, the passengers to my left and right were very kind people and not on the heavy side. When I landed in Zurich, I had no idea how to find the train station. With the help of the signs and the Swiss man who was the plane passenger to my left, I found it no problem. He pulled up an app on his phone and searched for the best train heading to Bern. I only had to wait 8 minutes for it to arrive. Great first impression of the Swiss.
